The new kitchen was formed from two existing rooms, a snug and a prior farmhouse kitchen. The non load bearing wall between was removed and the floor levels aligned to allow installation of the new final floor. We reclaimed the old panelled door in the partition wall for use somewhere else, and a large stone hearth that will be reset in the stone chimney breast. Both rooms featured the original gothic revival tracery windows which will be restored inside and out.
The farmhouse kitchen was stripped back to the stone walls revealing the original Georgian entrance to the previous Rectory with decorative Quoins and keystone. We decided to keep this entrance as an homage to the original Rectory, and based the final floor level from this ensuring we left the detail of the bottom doorway Quoin shoulders on display. The floor was dugout ready for the sub base and re-joisting.
The snug held a small en-suite shower room and was previously used as a letting room. The floor was dugout to the same level as the farmhouse kitchen ready for the sub base and re-joisting.
